On Saturday, truckers on the GT Road’s Shambhu-Rajpura-Sirhind stretch were surprised to see a Punjab Cabinet Minister kindly requesting that they stop their cars away from the highway and display the documentation for the products transported.
The minister oversaw the covert operation after having tea with cops in Rajpura at approximately 8 a.m. He was spotted conversing with drivers and looking through paperwork while standing by the side of the road. The minister made sure that the trucks with documents were allowed to leave and the trucks without proper documentation were detained while being accompanied by senior officials such as Taxation Commissioner KK Yadav, Additional Commissioner-I Viraj S Tidke, Director Investigation HPS Ghotra, and others.
During the special drive, about 150 cars transporting iron scrap, mixed products, furniture, parcels, etc. were inspected. 38 of them were held for verification because the majority of them lacked legitimate documentation or e-way bills.
