India: As per the agreed formula, the Modi government will raise the dearness allowance (DA) for its over one crore employees and pensioners by four percentage points to 42 percent from 38 percent.
Employee and pensioner dearness allowances are calculated using the Labour Bureau’s monthly Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW). The Labour Ministry’s Labour Bureau
All India Railwaymen Federation General Secretary Shiva Gopal Mishra told PTI, “December 2022’s CPI-IW was released on January 31, 2023. 4.23 percent is the dearness allowance increase. However, the government does not consider DA increases beyond decimal point. Thus, DA may rise to 42%.”
He added that the Finance Ministry’s expenditure department will propose raising DA and its revenue impact to the Union Cabinet for approval.
